TM - Ford latest automaker hit by chip shortage; will idle Louisville plant for a week
Ford ([[F]] -0.7%) it will idle its Louisville assembly plant in Kentucky next week due to a shortage of semiconductors, becoming the latest automaker to be hit by a chip crunch as demand rebounds from the pandemic.Ford will pull ahead a scheduled week off from later in the year at the Louisville plant, which builds the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair SUV.Fiat Chrysler ([[FCAU]] -3.1%) recently said it would delay the restart of production at its Toluca plant in Mexico plant until at least the end of the month, Toyota ([[TM]] +0.2%) will cut production of its Tundra full-size pickup truck at its plant in San Antonio, Tex., and Honda ([[HMC]] -0.3%) says its output in Japan could be affected by a shortage of semiconductors.Credit Suisse analyst Daniel Levy says the chip supply issues may limit near-term auto production for the industry, but industry officials say they are prioritizing production
