FORD - Ford to End GT Supercar Production with New LM Edition

Ford Motor (NYSE: F) is prepared to end production of its USD500,000 GT supercar later in the year with a special production model to pay tribute to the vehicle’s racing history. GT deliveries began in 2017 and have since gained popularity. The company stated that the GT LM Edition will mark the last 20 cards to leave the assembly line.

“As we close this chapter of the road-going Ford GT, the GT LM Edition gave us a chance to inject even more heart and soul from a podium-finishing racecar, furthering the tribute to our 2016 Le Mans win,” Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, said in a release.

The special model includes the same 660 hp, twin-turbo Ecoboost V6 as every other GT, it is unique amid 3D-printed titanium exhaust. The model has a GT LM badge manufactured in using the same method.

“With innovative materials, design, and engineering, the Ford GT is unlike any other production supercar,” said Mark Rushbrook, Ford Performance Motorsports’ global director. “As we close this chapter of the road-going Ford GT, the GT LM Edition gave us a chance to inject even more heart and soul from a podium-finishing racecar, furthering the tribute to our 2016 Le Mans win.”

A company spokesperson declined to comment on the possibility of a fourth-generation GT sometime in the future.
