HNHAF - Foxconn changes plans for Wisconsin site; nears purchase for Taiwan fab in EV push
Apple assembler Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry (HNHAF), has renegotiated the terms of its investment plans in Wisconsin, an heralded agreement that originally revolved around building an LCD chip fab.Foxconn chairman Young-Way Liu says the company plans to adjust the businesses conducted at the Wisconsin plant, and the state will accordingly adjust its subsidies and tax breaks.The chairman says the business investments will stick to Foxconn's "3+3" strategy, which includes six major sectors: electric vehicles, digital healthcare, robots, AI, semiconductors, and next-generation communication technologies.Asked if the Wisconsin plant could focus on EVs, the chairman said that would depend on facility size, comprehensiveness of the ecosystem, and local government support.In other Foxconn news, the company is in talks to acquire a 6-inch wafer production facility from leading Taiwanese memory chipmaker Macronix International, which is a supplier to Sony, Nintendo, and Apple.Foxconn is still pursuing an 8-inch fab in
