With the rising popularity of option ETFs being launched, investors may think that this is a newer high-yield asset class. However, funds like First Trust Nasdaq BuyWrite Income ETF ( FTQI ) have been implementing an option writing strategy against a portfolio of equities for over a decade. FTQI has an inception dating back to 2014 and has proved that it can preserve capital over a longer holding period. When I previously covered FTQI, I issued a hold rating due to the underperformance against peers.
