TLH - Fund markets attract $8.1B on the week but equity ETFs saw outflows for the fifth straight week

The investment community experienced weekly capital inflows of $8.1B to the fund market which includes both conventional funds and ETFs for the week ending July 13th. However, equity ETFs observed their fifth straight week of outflows while fixed income ETFs attracted capital for their third straight week.

Moreover, the weekly inflows marked the second consecutive positive week according to data compiled by the latest Refinitiv Lipper fund flow report.

Leading the inflow charge were money market funds, as they took in $9.4B. Next inline were taxable bond funds, taking in $1.6B, tax-exempt fixed income funds attracted $210M, and equity funds retracted $3.1B.

Equity ETFs watched $1.5B exit the door on the week. The iShares Russell 2000 ETF ( NYSEARCA: IWM ) led all exchange traded funds with regards to outflows as it lost $1.2B for the week. Following behind it was the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF ( NYSEARCA: XLY ) which took back $564M.

Flipping the script and the two equity funds that attracted the most significant weekly capital were the Invesco QQQ Trust 1 ETF ( NASDAQ: QQQ ) as it took in $1.7B and the benchmark iShares Core S&P 500 ETF ( NYSEARCA: IVV ) as it pulled in $952M.

Fixed income ETFs on the other hand attracted $6.3B and have now taken in investor capital for the third straight week. Leading all fixed income ETFs was the iShares 10-20 Year Treasury Bond ETF ( TLH ) and iShares iBoxx $ Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF ( LQD ). TLH garnered $1.7B while LQD took down $1.21B.

At the other end of the spectrum, the iShares Interest Rate Hedged Corporate Bond ETF ( LQDH ) saw the largest outflows of any fixed income ETF. LQDH lost $358M, following behind LQDH was WisdomTree Floating Rate Treasury ETF ( USFR ), which lost $290M.

In broader market news, stock index futures point to a higher opening Monday as investors turn their focus to the increasing number of earnings reports.
