AGN - Futures Point to Flat Open

U.S. stock index futures were little changed on Monday as investors assess the economic impact of the coronavirus outbreak in China.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials dropped 31 points, or 0.1%, early Friday to 29,015.

Futures for the S&P 500 sank 1.75 points, or 0.1%, at 3,323.75.

Futures for the NASDAQ Composite forked over one point to 9,408.50.

Allergan and XPO Logistics Inc. are among a host of companies reporting earnings Monday.

As of Sunday night, China said a total of 40,171 cases of coronavirus had been confirmed and 908 people had died, while 14 Americans have tested positive for the virus aboard a cruise ship quarantined in Japan. The death toll from the coronavirus has also overtaken that of the SARS outbreak in the early 2000s.

Futures did pair earlier losses, however, after Chinese President Xi Jinping said China would speed up development of drugs aimed at treating pneumonia-like viruses. Xi also said China will win the fight against the coronavirus.

Overseas, in Japan, the Nikkei 225 shed 0.6% Monday, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng slid 0.6%

Oil prices were off a penny to $50.31 U.S. a barrel.

Gold prices edged up $2.80 to $1,576.20 U.S. an ounce.
