GNUS - Genius Brands bids to join the grown-up table in children's entertainment
Genius Brands International stock (NASDAQ:GNUS) went for a ride last week. Last Monday, the stock skyrocketed 51% on news that it was scheduling a Wednesday investor call to discuss positive investor news. It was halted Wednesday premarket before announcing it was acquiring Canadian animated-program producer Wow Unlimited Media for $53 million in cash and stock. And the stock resumed trading up by double digits for a short period - and then, investors sold the news. Shares finished Wednesday down 18.7%, and posted more modest declines on Thursday (down 3.3%) and Friday (down 5.4%). For the week, the stock finished just 3.7% higher than the prior week. Who is Genius Brands? Once known as Pacific Entertainment, it changed names in 2011 and pursued creating and licensing entertainment targeted at children from "toddlers to tweens." It developed the Kartoon Channel and Kartoon Classroom, now available in more than 100 million U.S. television
