GNUS - Genius Brands launches division to monetize programming music library

Genius Brands International ( NASDAQ: GNUS ) has launched a new division devoted to monetizing its music library .

The new unit, Genius Music, will seek multiple revenue streams through producing and distributing music soundtracks across its intellectual property portfolio, including its Kartoon Channel properties, WOW Unlimited Media and Germany's Your Family Entertainment.

The company's tapped veteran producer/composer Juan Carlos "JC" Quintero to lead the division. Quintero had spent more than eight years as head of music at Saban Brands working on longtime children's brands including Power Rangers.

Genius Music will tap a production music library of more than 8,000 original production tracks built for content creators on Genius' Frederator Network. Some 1,800 minutes of original music are also being developed for its Shaq's Garage, set to debut this year.
