GEO - GEO Group gets unfavorable verdicts in retrial posts steady Q3 earnings

GEO Group (NYSE:GEO) discloses jury verdicts that went against the company in the retrial of two lawsuits, resulting in a combined $23.2M in judgments. The original trial of the two cases — state of Washington v. GEO Group (GEO) and Nwauzor et al v. GEO Group — ended in a mistrial in June 2021 a that jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. The company said it will address the need for a bond for the combined judgments and will request a stay of enforcement of the verdict and judgment while its appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit is pending. "GEO (GEO) strongly disagrees with the verdict and judgments in the retrial of the lawsuits," the company said.
