REAL - Global eCommerce transactions boost 24% this holiday season
New benchmark data from ACI Worldwide (ACIW) reports 24% Y/Y growth in eCommerce transactions globally in December, +22% Y/Y in Q4 and +19% for FY2020. eCommerce transactions in the retail sector expanded 31% and the gaming sector increased 90%. Merchants that offered the “buy online, pick up in store” (BOPIS) delivery channel pre-pandemic experienced 70% Y/Y increase in volume. Travel and ticketing dip 27% and 76% in December.The gaming sector increased 84% and retail sector increased 48% for the year.“In 2020, we saw the pandemic drive the highest number of merchants implementing the BOPIS delivery channel for the first time in one year,” said Debbie Guerra, executive vice president, ACI Worldwide. “We expect this channel to increase as more consumers get used to the convenience of shopping at home and the speed of in-store pickup.
