EV - GM Stock Surged as General Motors Recalled Its Electric Hummers Due to a Faulty Battery Seal

After discovering a defect in the battery seal that might enable water to enter the battery pack, General Motors ( NYSE:GM ) has decided to recall 735 of the firm’s electric Hummer vehicles and 89 of its BrightDrop EV600 electric vans. The recall was issued after the company discovered the problem. The automobiles may no longer be drivable if water gets into the battery pack. Despite it, GM stock surged in the market.
GM received Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) submissions on July 26, 2022, and August 9, 2022, regarding possible electrocoating and urethane-sealing concerns in some Hummer EV battery packs. These issues were brought to GM’s attention by Speak Up For Safety. On August 2, 2022, and again on August 19, 2022, GM stock initiated product inquiries to examine these accusations and others linked to them.
The examinations revealed two production errors: one included faulty urethane seal repair, and another involved uncured electrocoating along some areas of the battery tray. Because of these problems, the urethane seal adhesion in battery packs constructed during specific build windows could not be excellent.
At this time, General Motors is aware of three verified complaints of water entering inadequately sealed battery packs in the GMC Hummer Electric Vehicle (EV). The afflicted cars could not be started in two of these three instances. In contrast, the third instance included a loss of propulsion while the vehicle was being driven. GM is currently working on developing a solution for this issue.
