GPRE - Green Plains chairman and veteran Hoovestol to retire in May

Green Plains ( NASDAQ: GPRE ) said Wednesday its long-time chairman Wayne Hoovestol will retire on May 9.

The company said it expects to elect a new chairperson after its annual meeting.

The board size will be reduced from to eight from nine directors as a result of Hoovestol's retirement.

Hoovestol, who has served as a director on the company's board since 2006, assumed the position of chairman in 2008.

Hoovestol also served as GPRE's COO from January 2007 to February 2007, CEO from February 2007 to December 2008 and Chief Strategy Officer from March 2009 to November 2009.
