AMRX - Hot Stocks: Earnings move IBM HCA PPG; FDA decisions prompt gains in AMRX steep losses in ARDX
Pgiam/iStock via Getty Images Earnings reports dominated the headlines on Tuesday. IBM (IBM) and HCA Healthcare (HCA) both gained ground in pre-market action following their quarterly releases. PPG Industries (PPG) dropped following the announcement of its financial figures. There were also some non-earnings stories driving trading in individual stocks. Amneal Pharmaceuticals (AMRX) got a boost from FDA approval of a generic form of TobraDex. Meanwhile, FDA-related news had the opposite impact on Ardelyx (ARDX). Shares plunged before the bell on deficiencies in its application for a kidney treatment. IBM reported a quarterly profit of $2.33 per share, topping expectations of $2.29 per share. The company's revenue advanced 3% to $18.7 billion, also beating projections. On the news, IBM advanced 3% before the bell. HCA also gained ground following its quarterly report, with shares jumping 6% in pre-market trading. The advance followed better-than-expected earnings figures, with revenue rising 30% to $14.4B.
