Pgiam/iStock via Getty Images Thought the COVID worries were over? Not quite. Renewed concerns about variants of the disease weighed on airline stocks on Thursday. This included declines in shares of Spirit Airlines (SAVE), United (UAL) and Delta (DAL). Elsewhere on the transportation front, antitrust anxiety was the culprit for another notable decline. Kansas City Southern (KSU) plunged after President Joe Biden issued an executive order targeting consolidation and anticompetitive pricing in the railroad and ocean shipping industries. Companies developing products for Alzheimer's treatment got a boost on Thursday. A positive analyst comment sparked an advance in Cassava Sciences (SAVA), Annovis Bio (ANVS), and INmune Bio (INMB). Reports about a high number of new COVID cases raised concerns about a renewal of travel restrictions on Thursday. This despite the fact that levels of hospitalizations and deaths remain low. On the COVID concerns, SAVE dropped 1.7%, UAL dipped 1.3% and DAL slipped 1.1%.
