HYMLF - Hyundai recalls over 25K Kona EVs due to battery fire risk
South Korea's transport ministry says Hyundai (HYMLF) will voluntarily recall Kona electric vehicles due to a potential issue with faulty manufacturing of its high-voltage battery cells. The issue could pose a fire risk, according to the regulator. There 13 separate reports on fires involving the Kona EV that could be tied to the issue. The software and battery recall involves 25,564 Kona electric vehicles built between September 2017 and March 2020. Hyundai says the safety recall is a proactive response to a suspected defective production of high-voltage batteries used in the vehicles. Shares of Hyundai closed up 0.35% in Seoul today.
