Introduction
When I wrote under another handle, I introduced the Seeking Alpha community to my friend and mentor Harry. Harry was a former engineer and researcher for a military aviation company. He retired at 45, took his retirement severance, and invested it. From that point, he lived his life off the dividends he earned. He never owned any bonds; he didn’t even understand them. But he knew stocks and knew them well. He read every annual report, in detail. He followed the tickers on CNBC. I would share the news on Yahoo! Finance when I visited him. His appetite for stock talk could never be satiated. I remember how he would keep information on every stock he owned on index cards. He also kept a paper register for each holding, tracking his dividends and cost basis....
