UMC - Intel repeats forecast that chip shortage could last several years

Intel (INTC) CEO Pat Gelsinger told the WaPo back in April that the global semiconductor shortage would take "a couple of years" to subside, and he reiterated that forecast on Monday at the Computex trade show in Taipei.A "cycle of explosive growth in semiconductors" has placed huge strain on supply chains ranging from auto production to consumer electronics. "But while the industry has taken steps to address near term constraints, it could still take a couple of years for the ecosystem to address shortages of foundry capacity, substrates and components.""We plan to expand to other locations in the U.S. and Europe, ensuring a sustainable and secure semiconductor supply chain for the world," added Gelsinger, without providing details.
