MANU - Manchester United rises 2.5% after report Glazers want £4B to sell
Manchester United (MANU +2.5%) is higher in U.S. trading today amid weekend reports that the controlling Florida-based Glazer family is willing to sell the soccer club for £4B. The Irish Mirror says the Glazers are seeking that price because of the team's unique heritage and commercial strength. Perhaps more important, it's a price they believe the club would have been worth had now-collapsed plans for a European Super League of soccer gone forward. That league would reportedly have been a bit of an exit strategy for the Glazers, who have been under fire from fans of the team who have organized pushes to oust them. The Glazers bought their majority interest in Manchester United in 2005 for £790M. Despite some volatility, the stock has closed slightly lower on NYSE for two straight sessions.
