Major League Baseball is in talks to launch a nationwide streaming offering that would free hometown fans from having to subscribe to cable TV to watch, the New York Post reports. MLB is also drawing interest from the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League for such a service, which could launch for baseball as soon as the 2023 season, according to the report. And that would present a blow to a cable bundle in secular decline. Baseball fans have typically needed to subscribe to cable to watch their hometown teams since rights largely lay with regional sports networks.
