• We take a look at how income investors can think about MLP CEFs in the context of income portfolios.
• The combination of high midstream asset volatility and CEF leverage can lead to substantially reduced income levels relative to other income sectors.
• Our view remains that MLP CEFs are not appropriate for buy-and-hold income portfolios but are useful as tactical allocations for nimble investors.
