BVNKF - Monkeypox plays rally as New York calls outbreak a public emergency
Companies focused on developing solutions against monkeypox jumped in the pre-market Monday after New York became the second major U.S. city to call the current outbreak a public health emergency.
Announcing the decision on Saturday, New York Mayor Eric Adams and Dr. Ashwin Vasan, commissioner of the city's health and mental hygiene department, said: "We estimate that approximately 150,000 New Yorkers may currently be at risk for monkeypox exposure."
On Thursday, San Francisco declared a state of emergency over the outbreak as the number of monkeypox cases there reached 28.
Notable gainers, Virax Biolabs Group ( VRAX ), GeoVax Labs ( GOVX ), and Tonix Pharmaceuticals ( NASDAQ: TNXP ) have added ~42%, ~52%, and ~21% , respectively, on heavy volumes. Others, including Chimerix ( CMRX ), Bavarian Nordic ( OTCPK:BVNKF ) ( OTCPK:BVNRY ) and Co-Diagnostics ( CODX ) are also trading higher.
Meanwhile, SIGA Technologies ( SIGA ), the maker of monkeypox therapeutic TPOXX, has added ~7% after a ~23% selloff on Friday.
