COOP - Mortgages in forbearance decline by 48K in past week: Black Knight
The number of mortgages in active forbearance fell by 48K in the week ended Feb. 9, bringing the total decline to 93K in the past two weeks, according to Black Knight's McDash Flash Forbearance Tracker.Both weeks represent January plan expirations.As of Feb. 9, some 2.67M homeowners, or 5% of all mortgage holders, were in active forbearance, the first time forbearance volume has dipped below 2.7M since early April 2020.Still, overall improvement continues to be limited as monthly declines have been averaging less than 2% since early December. The usual pattern has been that the number of mortgages in forbearance falls in the first half of the month then rises modestly in the second half.Note that the FHFA announced that borrowers in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac forbearance plans may be eligible for an additional extension of up to three months.
