VIACA - Nielsen's Gauge offers snapshot of TV share across streaming and linear
Media ratings mainstay Nielsen Holdings (NLSN) has launched a new visualization made to give a monthly view of how audiences are using streaming services, and where those services stand compared to traditional broadcast and pay television. "The Gauge" is a snapshot that also drills down into relative share among streaming services, and how they hold up compared to traditional TV. And its initial take seems to back up Netflix (NFLX) co-CEO Reed Hastings when he says there's a lot of addressable market ahead for streaming TV. Streaming usage across all television homes has climbed to 26% of all time spent on television, The Gauge's May edition says. But that's still a minority of time - roughly equivalent to that share held by broadcast TV (25%), and well behind the share of pay cable (39%).
