NAK - Northern Dynasty files formal appeal over Pebble permit rejection

Northern Dynasty Minerals ([[NAK]] +6.5%) says its Pebble Partnership subsidiary has formally filed an appeal to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over its decision to deny a key water permit for the Pebble Mine in Alaska.Pebble Partnership submitted its request for appeal to the Army Corps' Pacific Ocean Division Engineer in Hawaii, which has 30 days from receipt to notify whether the RFA is complete.Northern Dynasty says the Army Corps' "significant degradation" finding, its "public interest review" findings and perfunctory rejection of Pebble's compensatory mitigation plan "are contrary to law, unprecedented in Alaska and fundamentally unsupported by the administrative record."The Army Corps denied the Clean Water Act permit in November, likely marking an end to the proposed giant copper and gold mine.
