(NewsDirect)

McapMediaWire --Odyssey Health, Inc. (OTC: ODYY ), f/k/a Odyssey GroupInternational, Inc., a company focused on developing unique,life-enhancing medical products, today announces a Community-BasedPartnership (CBP) with the David R. Metcalf Invisible WoundsFoundation, a non-profit organization that advances brainhealth care for active duty military and veterans by addressingtraumatic brain injury (TBI) and suicide prevention among NavalSpecial Warfare and special operations forces.

Between 2001 and 2021,over 30,000 active-duty personnel and veterans who served in themilitary after 9/11 died by suicide, compared to the 7,057 servicemembers who died in combat during that same 20-year period. DavidMetcalf was a Navy SEAL, commissioned naval officer, and physicianassistant. Following consecutive deployments and multiple TBIs, Davidwas one of the many warriors who took his own life. Repetitive TBI islinked to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Post-ConcussionSyndrome (PCS) and mental illness. Each of these conditions increasethe rate of suicidal ideation and completion.

A Community-BasedPartnership (CBP) allows Odyssey Health’s scientific researchersacross multiple disciplines to work side-by-side with the MetcalfFoundation’s community – many of whom have lived experience withTBI. The CBP assists in the development of Odyssey Health’s drug fortreating TBI, specifically mild TBI (concussion). The CBP will includea needs assessment, clinical trial site planning, researchintervention design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination ofcommunity-level interventions. It is the CBP’s intent to enlist thesupport of the military community connected to The Metcalf Foundationwith the research and scientists at Odyssey Health. This partnershipwill help make sure TBI interventions respond to the militarycommunity’s, particularly special operation forces, needs.

The CEO of the David R.Metcalf Invisible Wounds Foundation is Shannon Finn Connell, Ph.D. Sheis a U.S. Navy SEAL parent and serves as an advisor to the Navy SEALFoundation focused on initiatives for warriors transitioning frommilitary service to civilian life. Shannon is a former executive withSYSCO, Shell Oil, and Procter & Gamble. She obtained her Ph.D. inorganizational development, researching design thinking as aproblem-solving method in global organizational change initiatives.“Our foundation is active in coordinating research groups, findingfunding for care, and bringing awareness to the devastating epidemicof TBI and suicide in our Naval Special Warfare and special operationsforces communities. We work with military members, both active andretired, and their families, who face their own challenges as TBI andsuicide effects the mental fortitude of loved ones. We are excited bya potential treatment for acute concussion. Highly trained warriors, like David, are medically qualified to take care of themselves andteam members in training and combat. The Metcalf Foundation believesthe nasal device care and temperature stability of Odyssey Health’sdrug will give it a greater chance of success and promote its use inthis community of war fighters.”

“Odyssey Health recognizes the need to have apartner associated with the US military that can not only givefirsthand feedback about the effects of concussion but also helpaddress logistics of treating the condition out in the field. Militarymedicine has different barriers to care than civilian medicine and weare excited to partner with the Metcalf Foundation to help us navigateand develop the first acute treatment for concussion,” commentedMichael Redmond, Chief Executive Officer for Odyssey Health.

“I am excited to beworking with The Metcalf Foundation and Odyssey Health to develop anacute treatment for brain injury which is absolutely needed for ourmilitary men and women. Understanding the environment and logistics tocare for our Special Operations Forces will be critical for theclinical success of Odyssey’s treatment. I will be assisting theMetcalf Foundation in establishing community feedback needed from ourspecial forces operators to properly design and implement OdysseyHealth’s clinical trials,” commented Tim Szymanski, Vice Admiral(Retired) and former Deputy Commander of the United States SpecialOperations Command.
