DISCA - Opening bell and ETFs that can be affected by the AT&T-Discovery deal
Financial markets slip at the open on Monday after Thursday and Friday's rally. Last week market participants saw consumer staples and the financial sector lead the market, and consumer discretionary was the lagger.At the opening bell, investors can see red across all three major indices. Monday, utilities and consumer staples are the leading sectors, (XLU) +0.38% and (XLP) +0.37%. On the flip side, information technology is the market segment that is off to the slowest start, (XLK) -1.20%.The news of the morning is the the confirmed deal which will merge AT&T (T), WarnerMedia, and Discovery (DISCA).Per the agreement, AT&T is set to receive $43B in cash, debt securities, and debt retention. The new organization will be owned 71% by shareholders of AT&T and 29% by Discovery's shareholders.
