PLL - Piedmont Lithium grilled by skeptical officials over planned North Carolina mine

Piedmont Lithium ( NASDAQ: PLL ) faced a barrage of skeptical questions from local North Carolina officials Tuesday night about its proposed lithium mine that would supply the electric vehicle battery metal to Tesla.
The Gaston County Board of Commissioners asked for details on how the mine would affect water infrastructure, noise levels and other matters during the public information meeting.
Piedmont ( PLL ) CEO Keith Phillips did not attend the meeting, leaving some county commissioners frustrated.
The commission made no decision on the mine, but the meeting appeared to do little to resolve concerns of the residents in the audience.
The mine, if opened, would become one of North America's largest sources of lithium and the only U.S. mine in the Southeast, where the vast majority of the country's electric vehicle fleet will be manufactured.
