PLL - Piedmont Lithium to Build New Lithium Refining Plant

Piedmont Lithium (NASDAQ: PLL) revealed plans to build a new lithium refining plant in Tennessee. The move comes as the U.S. aims to develop domestic supply chains for raw materials that are critical to the energy transition.

“We are excited to announce the site of our newest project and partnership with the City of Etowah in McMinn County, and the State of Tennessee, as we advance our strategic goal of becoming a leading lithium supplier in the United States,” said Keith Phillips, President and Chief Executive Officer of Piedmont Lithium. “We are humbled by the warm welcome we have received from our new partners, and we look forward to making Piedmont an integral part of the Etowah and McMinn County communities as we develop Tennessee Lithium together for our mutual success.”

The company will now begin the process of getting permits for the site located in McMinn County and anticipate beginning construction at the start of 2023, with production beginning in 2025.

Once the plant is up and running, it will produce 30,000 metric tons of lithium per year, which will make it the largest lithium refining facility in the U.S, according to Piedmont.
