BPOP - Popular completes its second round of PPP originates $2.1B loans for both rounds
Kameleon007/iStock via Getty Images The Puerto Rico-based bank, Popular ([[BPOP]] +0.4%) completes the second round of the CARES Act's Paycheck Protection Program on May 31, originating $2.1B in both PPP rounds and processing ~50K loans. The second round, which started on Jan. 19, processed 20,500 loans, or $673M; Popular's average loan size was $32,800 compared with the national average of $42,000. Popular's processed PPP loans for both rounds represent 62% of the total loans originated on the island. Ignacio Alvarez, president and CEO of Popular comments, "a hundred percent of our loan requests in the second round were processed through our portal, enabling us to originate, review for approval and disburse these loans digitally."
