csfotoimages/iStock Editorial via Getty Images Republic Airways is exploring going public through an initial public offering this year, according to Bloomberg. Sources indicates that the airline company is working with underwriters as it preps for an IPO that could happen as early as the third quarter of this year. Republic operates flights through fixed-fee agreements for American Airlines Group's (AAL) American Eagle, Delta Air Lines' (DAL) Delta Connection and United Airlines' (UAL) United Express. The airline competes with SkyWest (SKYW) and Mesa Airlines (MESA) on some routes. Republic has a fleet of more than 220 Embraer SA planes. It has been a busy year for IPOs in the airline sector, with both Frontier Group (ULCC) and Sun Country Airlines (SNCY) going public already. Breeze Airways also began flying last month and plans to expand to 16 cities by July.
