LVS - Sands China's Ceramics Exhibition Sees Over 8 Million Visitors

MACAU, Oct. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- With Sands China's All That's Gold Does Glitter – An Exhibition of Glamorous Ceramics wrapping up Oct. 9, the museum-quality exhibition has been seen by over 8 million visitors to date.

The first-of-its-kind exhibition was launched June 8 in support of Art Macao, a six-month mega international arts and cultural event organised by the Macao government to promote art in city. Since opening, the high-level ceramic exhibition has been the centrepiece of the lobby of The Venetian® Macao, Sands China's most visited integrated resort.

Sands China's All That's Gold Does Glitter – An Exhibition of Glamorous Ceramics features over 90 ceramic masterpieces from outstanding ceramic artists from 13 different countries and regions. It is the largest and highest-level ceramic art exhibition in the Greater Bay Area in 2019. It was curated over the course of 10 months by internationally renowned ceramic artist Caroline Cheng of Hong Kong, who convened a meeting of 27 artists from all over the world, including herself, to create ceramic works under the theme of All That's Gold Does Glitter.

In preparation for the exhibition, more than 130 frontline team members and docents underwent training on the exhibition in order to better serve visitors and guests. The exhibition mobilised over 20 internal departments and more than 180 workers for its installation.

Students from local universities were invited to serve as exhibition docents, creating an interactive platform for them to gain in-depth knowledge of the artists and their works. They have played a crucial role in facilitating a good experience for the exhibition's visitors, providing docent tours to nearly 600 visitors from over 30 groups from local and overseas universities, community partners and art associations.

The exhibition has also featured auxiliary events. Sands China brought eight world-class ceramics masters to Macau Polytechnic Institute and Macau University of Science and Technology in June for two days of masterclasses, providing an opportunity for art students and professors for artistic exchange, with over 100 participants in attendance.

Innovative artisans workshops were also held in August at The Venetian Macao, where 12 artisans from Dali and Jingdezhen were invited to demonstrate ceramics skills and provide hands-on activities for children and families. The workshops had a very positive impact on participants from an educational point of view, and enhanced their understanding of ceramic arts and craftsmanship. They were very well received, with attendance maxing out daily, totalling more than 2,200 children and parents over the two-week workshop period.

"Sands China has been very pleased with the success of this exhibition and the various events surrounding it," said Dr. Wilfred Wong, president of Sands China Ltd. "It has engaged millions of visitors, locals, students and families to gain an appreciation for the beautiful variety of ceramic art. We have also been pleased to connect some of the exhibition's renowned artists with local universities and the community throughout the exhibition period through masterclasses and ceramic workshops. Our thanks go to the Macao SAR government for their leadership and support on Art Macao 2019, and we are privileged to be a part of this important cultural initiative."

The museum-quality All That's Gold Does Glitter – An Exhibition of Glamorous Ceramics is presented under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture, and is supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office.

The exhibition is part of Art Macao 2019, which features the International Art Exhibition and a variety of other events, including diverse musical, dance and theatrical performances, and art installations in outdoor public spaces.
