DXCM - Senseonics spikes on UnitedHealthcare coverage for glucose monitoring device

- MedTech company Senseonics Holdings ( NYSE: SENS ) added ~9% in the morning hours Friday after announcing that UnitedHealthcare, the health insurance arm of UnitedHealth Group ( NYSE: UNH ), will start offering coverage for its glucose monitoring device Eversense E3.
- In the market for Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems, Senseonics ( SENS ) competes with companies such as Abbott Laboratories ( ABT ) and DexCom ( DXCM ).
- UnitedHealthcare’s coverage for Eversense E3 CGM System takes effect from July 1, 2023, for patients with type 1 and insulin-requiring type 2 diabetes.
- The decision allows over 45M members covered by the largest health insurance provider in the U.S. to access the Eversense E3 CGM system, Senseonics ( SENS ) said, adding that payors with ~300M covered lives have now included Eversense in their CGM coverage policies.
