U.S. equity markets pushed higher this past week - while short-term benchmark interest rates plunged to three-year lows - after employment data provided decisive evidence of cooling labor markets, effectively locking in a Federal Reserve rate cut later this month and more to follow by year-end. Viewed by markets as a "Goldilocks" set of reports, data this week showed slowing, but still positive, job growth in August. Perhaps more importantly, it provided clear evidence of cooling wage pressures and emerging labor market slack - disinflationary offsets that have become critical to neutralize the uplift from tariffs and clear the path towards less restrictive monetary policy....
