DCMYY - Sony DoCoMo pull off cross-border remote vehicle test

Sony (SNE -0.5%) and NTT DoCoMo (DCMYY) have announced they have successfully run a cross-border remote vehicle management trial, using DoCoMo's 5G network. The two managed to carry passengers in Guam in Sony's Sociable Cart vehicle (SC-1), operating it remotely from a base in Tokyo, more than 2,500 km away. The SC-1 sports image sensors that exceed human vision, allowing for high-resolution video of the vehicle's perimeter to be viewed by the remote operator, and providing a clear view of surroundings even at night without headlights. The test used DoCoMo Pacific's low-latency 5G network for signal transmission.
