VWDRY - Southern buys Oklahoma wind facility from Vestas

Southern Co. ([[SO]] +1.7%) says it bought a 118 MW wind energy project in Oklahoma from Vestas Wind Systems (VWDRY), but financial terms are not disclosed.Southern says the electricity and associated renewable energy credits generated by the Glass Sands facility will be sold under a power purchase agreement with Amazon.Construction of the facility, which will include 28 wind turbines, is underway, with commercial operations planned to begin in Q4.The company says Glass Sands will be its 15th wind energy project.Southern said recently that it reduced greenhouse gas emissions 52% from 2007 levels and expects to achieve interim GHG reduction goals "significantly ahead of schedule."
