A special purpose acquisition company backed by NFL star Patrick Mahomes, MLB ace Justin Verlander and other top athletes is set to begin trading Wednesday after a $250M IPO.Disruptive Acquisition Corp. I (DISA.U) sold 25M investment units at $10 apiece through its initial public offering.Each unit consists of one Class A share and 0.33 units allowing the holder to buy a second at $11.50 in the future.Mahomes and Verlander will serve on the SPAC’s “Athlete Advisory Council.”Other top athletes joining them include Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez Barragan, who’s currently the world super middleweight world champion; Japanese pro tennis player Naomi Osaka, the reigning U.S. Open and the Australian Open champion; and Polish pro soccer player Robert Lewandowski; striker for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and captain of the Poland national soccer team.Additionally, former pro tennis player Mardy Fish serves as the SPAC’s vice president for business development.
