CMG - Subway updates menu and mobile app as part of its comeback bid
Restaurant chain Subway is upgrading its ingredients and mobile app in a bid to bring back lapsed customers - CNBC.From July 13, the company’s U.S. restaurants will offer nearly a dozen new or improved ingredients, as well as 10 revamped or original sandwiches.The company has struggled to find its footing for years and has been steadily shrinking its massive store footprint since 2016, ended 2020 with 22,201 U.S. locations.It is also burdened by its massive U.S. footprint and increased competition from its rivals like Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) and Potbelly (PBPB).Restaurant chains like McDonald’s and Chipotle have also been upgrading technology offerings after the pandemic led to a jump in digital orders over the last year and a half with 124% rise in the year ended in March, according to market researcher NPD Group.Previously: Subway may start a sales process in third or fourth quarter, NYPost says (April 20)
