SURF - Surface Oncology promotes chief medical officer as new CEO

Surface Oncology (SURF) has announced that Robert Ross will become the company’s president and chief executive officer with effect from April 1, 2021.Mr. Ross who has served as the company’s chief medical officer since 2016 will also join the company board while the current CEO Jeff Goater is set to become the chairman replacing Daniel Lynch who will take up a senior advisory role with the company.The former head of oncology at bluebird bio, Mr. Ross has previously worked at Genentech and Infinity Pharmaceuticals on small molecule and antibody programs.“With four Surface programs expected to be in clinical development by the end of 2021, including our two wholly-owned programs SRF617 and SRF388, Rob is the ideal person to lead the company through its next phase of growth,” said the outgoing, CEO Jeff Goater.Since its IPO in 2018, Surface Oncology shares have dropped ~20.6% under the leadership of Jeff Goater.
