OFC - Teleworking percentage slips in July but office occupancy is far from full

The percentage of employees teleworking from home decreased in July, according to the Department of Labor Statistics' July Employment Situation report. 13.2% of employed persons teleworked because of the pandemic, down from 14.4% in June, which may lead one to conclude that offices are starting to fill up again. But offices are still far from pre-pandemic occupancy levels, according to Kastle Systems Back to Work Barometer. The discrepancy may largely be due to the large proportion workers don't work in offices. Those in public-facing jobs such as restaurants or stores or hospitals can't work remotely. Neither can construction, warehouse, or factory, or agricultural workers. And while the BLS numbers show a lower percentage of people working from home in July, that may flatten out or creep up next month as the Delta variant continues to spread.
