Terran Orbital Corporation ( NYSE: LLAP ) announced on Monday CAPSTONE’s recent successful completion of its primary mission to navigating to and within the Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit and performing the initial successful test of the Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System in coordination with the NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. The company said the CAPSTONE mission also imaged the Moon.
Terran Orbital's ( LLAP ) CAPSTONE is said to be laying the groundwork for future lunar exploration by demonstrating operations in NRHO.
"CAPSTONE has provided NASA with rapid and low-cost data about operations in its NRHO around the Moon, the same orbit planned for Gateway – a space station that will provide astronauts with access to the lunar surface in support of NASA’s Artemis missions."
CAPSTONE operations are shared between Terran Orbital ( LLAP ) and Advanced Space for NASA. The program has now seen 28 successful orbits, 7 on-orbit maneuvers, 89 published orbit determination navigation solutions, and the collection of more than 315K measurements from the Deep Space Network.
Rocket Lab ( RKLB ) is the launch provider of the CAPSTONE program.
Terran Orbital ( LLAP ) trickled 0.39% higher in late Monday trading. The aerospace stock is down 15% on a year-to-date basis.
