Real estate investment trusts ("REITs") are my favorite asset class for long-term investment.
Growth stocks are all the rage among investors these days, and private equity is a popular choice for pension funds. Both could be overlooking the underrated potential of REITs.
A recently released study of pension fund assets shows that, of 12 asset classes, REITs generated the second highest realized total returns from 1998 to 2018.
What generated the highest return? Private equity. But there are good reasons to believe that PE won't be able to repeat its strong performance over the last few decades.
Now is a great time to go long REITs.
