Even though I wish that investing was easy to the point of buying something and then just watching it go up, that's not the reality that we live in. Even the best opportunities will experience periods during which they underperform. Sometimes, this is justified. Other times, it's not. One interesting case where, to an extent, it is justified, can be seen by looking at The Monarch Cement Company ( OTCPK:MCEM ). Back in May of this year, I reaffirmed the business as an opportunity that offered "concrete upside." This was based largely around its relative valuation. But since then, the stock has actually dipped by 1.6% at a time when the S&P 500 is up 8.8%....
