ROKU - TiVo wins auction for assets of bankrupt MobiTV
TiVo (XPER) has prevailed in an auction for the assets of bankrupt MobiTV, over a rival bidder who had some backing from Roku (ROKU). An auction has ended with TiVo winning with an $18.5M bid, mostly in cash. That beat an $18M bid from Amino and a joint venture between Roku and patent portfolio company RPX. Several other bidders dropped out earlier on. The spoils are not only MobiTV's IP/patent business, FierceVideo's Ben Munson notes, but also its ongoing operations serving video service providers. MobiTV's Connect platform was used by partners including T-Mobile (and its bankruptcy didn't help matters as T-Mobile pulled the plug on its own TV service offering).
