VWAGY - Traton invests in Navistar partner as takeover talks play out
Volkswagen (VWAGY) trucking subsidiary Traton, which is trying to acquire the rest of Navistar (NAV), is partnering with a self-driving startup that recently aligned itself with the U.S. truck maker.Back in July, TuSimple struck a deal with Navistar to jointly develop self-driving trucks (the latter also took a minority stake).The startup is now looking to bring automation to the Traton's European freight-hauling brands. The aim is to begin testing Level 4 autonomous trucks on roads in countries including Germany and Sweden (no target date was provided).Earlier this year, TuSimple raised $215M in an extended Series D funding round, with investors including United Parcel Service through its UPS Ventures investment arm.
