REMYY - U.S. adds some EU aircraft components wines to tariff list
The U.S. decision to expand tariffs against the European Union to components for U.S.-made aircraft will harm U.S. workers and consumers and Europe should respond "appropriately," Airbus ([[EADSY]] -1.7%) says. The office of the U.S. Trade Representative said earlier today that was adding aircraft components such as fuselages and wings, as well as wines and brandy from France and Germany, to a list of goods subject to tariffs, responding to what it said was unfair European Union retaliation. The USTR said EU tariffs imposed in November had been distorted by basing them on trade depressed by the pandemic, and because Britain had been cut from the calculation even though it had applied the measures throughout 2020.Aircraft already were covered by U.S. tariffs, but the addition of components closes a loophole that had allowed Airbus planes assembled in Alabama to be sold in the U.S. free of tariffs. Some alcohol from the EU countries
