BIPC - U.S. rail traffic shows slow sign of improvement for last week
The Association of American Railroads ((AAR)) reports total weekly US rail traffic up 12.5% to 514,112 carloads and intermodal units for the week ending June 19, 2021.Total carloads up 15.1% to 232,144; intermodal volume up 10.4% to 281,968 containers and trailers when compared to the same period last year.7 of the 10 carload commodity groups posted an increase while other 3 were on the downside: grain, down 1,820 carloads, to 19,617; miscellaneous carloads, down 478 carloads, to 9,290; and motor vehicles and parts, down 303 carloads, to 12,534.For the first 24 weeks of 2021, U.S. railroads reported cumulative volume of 5,528,562 carloads, up 8.6% from the same point last year; and 6,776,944 intermodal units, up 18.2%.Region-wise weekly data: North America, 699,165 carloads and intermodal units (+10.6%); Canadian railroads, 76,464 carloads (+5.9%) and 72,001 intermodal units (+11.7%); Mexican railroad, 21,299 carloads (-5.2%) and 15,289 intermodal units (-2.9% Y/Y).Related Tickers: Canadian National Railway (CNI), Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B), Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), CSX Corp.
