BIPC - U.S. weekly rail traffic jumps 2.4% year-over-year

• The Association of American Railroads [AAR] reported on Wednesday that for the week ending November 25, 2023, U.S. rail traffic was 415,332 carloads and intermodal units, up 2.4% year-over-year.
• Total carloads for the week fell 2.5% to 195,948 carloads, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 219,384 containers and trailers, rising 7.1%.
• Four of the 10 carload commodity groups posted a year-over-year increase for the week. They included petroleum and petroleum products, metallic ores and metals, and chemicals.
• Commodity groups that fell year-over-year for the week included miscellaneous carloads, nonmetallic minerals, and grain.
• North American rail volume for the week, on 12 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads was 302,649 carloads, down 2.3% year-over-year, and 299,802 intermodal units, up 6.1%.
• Canadian railroads reported 91,357 carloads for the week, down 4.5%, and 69,360 intermodal units, up 0.5%.
• Mexican railroads reported 15,344 carloads for the week, up 17.5%, and 11,058 intermodal units, up 25.4%.
