MESA - United Airlines outlines aims to hire 50000 workers by 2025

United Airlines Holdings ( NASDAQ: UAL ) voiced plans to pursue an ambitious hiring push in coming years on Wednesday.

Airline executives indicated during an Aviate program event that the carrier hired 15,000 new workers in 2022 and aims to hire another 15,000 by the close of 2023. A total of 50,000 new employees are expected to be hired by the close of 2025.

The airline also reached an agreement with ramp workers to passenger service agents unions on Monday. The new contracts are due to wage raises for about 29,000 employees.

“The IAM has once again set the bar for airline workers across the industry,” IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen said. “We continue to have success reaching agreements that secure our work and turn into airline jobs into family-sustaining careers.”

The Aviate program was highlighted by Mesa Air Group ( MESA ) CEO Jonathan Ornstein in an interview with Seeking Alpha. He voiced his belief that the two can work together to stem issues from the pilot shortage .
