TV - Univision sets big streaming plans for post-Televisa merger
Univision (UVN) is expanding its streaming ambitions following its $4.8B acquisition of Grupo Televisa (TV), set to close later this year. The broadcaster plans a service to come in 2022 to the United States and Latin America, encompassing subscription options as well as free ad-supported video. It will roll up the existing VIX and Univision Now services, along with Univision's recently launched ad-supported PrendeTV service. The free tier will have more than 100 linear channels and more than 40,000 hours of content on demand, FierceVideo notes. A subscription tier will offer more than 6,000 hours of Spanish-language content and more than 30 original productions slated for the service's first year.
