VAR - Varian partners with Google Cloud to bring convenience to cancer therapy

Varian ([[VAR]] -0.0%) is planning to build advanced artificial intelligence (“AI”) based diagnostic platform using Google Cloud to ease cancer treatment workflow.Using Neural Architecture Search (“NAS”) technology via Google Cloud AI Platform, the company will develop AI models for organ segmentation, a labor-intensive phase in radiation oncology that can slow down the treatment. Organ segmentation provides the basis for radiotherapy treatment plans by identifying in diagnostic images the organs and tissues that must be targeted or protected during radiation therapy.Using NAS technology and Varian's proprietary treatment planning image data, the company will develop an AI segmentation engine for ‘customized auto-segmentation models for organs in the body,’ according to a statement issued by Varian.Siemens Healthineers has won Chinese and European regulatory approval to acquire Varian.
